Preparing the Food

Our freeze drying process is all about keeping the flavor while creating a light, crunchy snack or treat. We use tasty fruits and vegetables and carefully freeze dry them to remove the moisture while keeping the taste and nutrients. We also freeze dry a variety of candies — including some we make ourselves — to create fun, airy treats with a whole new texture.

Freeze Drying the Food

Freeze drying works by freezing the food to well below zero and then slowly removing all of the ice, leaving the good stuff behind. This process keeps most of the nutrients and natural flavor while creating the light, crispy texture that makes freeze dried snacks so fun to eat—no high heat or preservatives needed!


We freeze food as low as -40ºF, locking in freshness, Then a powerful vacuum gently removes the ice by turning frozen water directly into vapor. The result is lightweight, shelf-stable food that keeps over 90% of its nutrients—up to 96%.

Packaging the Food

Packaging freeze-dried food in a unique challenge because every piece is different—various shapes, sizes, and can sometimes be fragile. Once the water is removed, what is left can be less than 10% of the original weight. A fresh apple can shink down to a light, crispy treat that weighs less than an ounce but has an intense punch of flavor!

Tip: It is impossible to imagine what a freeze dried pepper, or a freeze dried piece of candy tastes and feels like. You have to try it!

Nutrients
